The Rhythm of a Lesson
When we teach students using Funny Phonics, whether in person or on Zoom, we follow a basic rhythm for all 70 lessons:
1. Open in prayer.
2. Sing the A-a-Adam song (found in Lesson 1) and follow along with the PDF of the song.
3. Read 1 Flashcard (found in Lesson 1) with its devotional. Week 1, you would read the "A" Devotional. Week 2, read the "B" Devotional. Week 3, the "C" Devotional, and so on.
4. Have the student read the PDF Lesson for the week. The parent or teacher will read the comprehension questions and the project out loud to the student, and then you will discuss them together.
5. Read one story with the student from The Beginner's Bible (you can order a copy through the Resource Page). The student reads the easy words; the teacher reads the hard words.
6. End by speaking a blessing over the student. Now the lesson is over!
We take our students through Funny Phonics at the pace of one lesson per week. On Monday, we will do our official Lesson Time, following the above-mentioned rhythm. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the parent will have the student read and review the lesson again. This only takes about 10 minutes per day. Using this method, your student will make steady progress to improve his or her reading skills.
Happy Reading!
