Welcome to

Inspired by my Best Friend,
JESUS the MESSIAH
Everything you need
To teach someone to read! (Child or Adult)

At Funny Phonics, we believe that reading is a gift from GOD, and is an essential part of a joyful, holy, successful life. It is through reading the Bible that we get to know our CREATOR and KING: GOD the FATHER, GOD the LORD JESUS CHRIST, and GOD the HOLY SPIRIT. We desire to help every person learn to read well and get to know GOD well.
This website is still under construction due to the fact that we are actively writing curriculum. But what we have, we offer to you, free of charge. "Freely we have received; Freely we give." We recommend that you start your student on Lesson 1 and work your way through the lessons. Review each lesson several times, until your student has mastered that lesson. By the time you finish all the lessons with your student, he or she will be a proficient reader. This course works whether your student is a total beginner and doesn't even know his alphabet yet, or if he knows how to read a little, or if he is struggling in his reading skills. There is no time limit on how fast the student should learn. This course is composed of seventy lessons: 59 Phonics Lessons, and 11 Auxiliary Lessons. There are 52 weeks in a year. Therefore, if you do one lesson per week, your student will finish the course in a little over a year. If you tackle two lessons per week, your students will complete the course in one school year. Go at the pace your student needs. Remember, you are laying a foundation for ALL of the student's future ability to learn. Reading is the first step in being able to read math, science, history, and every other subject. However long it takes to learn how to read, this is a skill worth investing in.
We recommend that you get a 3-ring binder and buy a package of page protectors. Every time you print off a resource, put it in a page protector and place it in the binder. Then, your student will be able to practice these pages over and over.
May ABBA FATHER, the LORD JESUS CHRIST, and the HOLY SPIRIT bless you richly, and have fun reading!

ack/eck/ick/ock/uck
When the student can instantly recognize these shortcuts, he will not have to sound out simple words that contain these patterns. Print this PDF. For Lesson 12, have the student practice the an/en/in/on/un words. For Lesson 13, have him practice the ack/eck/ick/ock/uck words. Then read the story and poems.

Lesson 16: Vowel Teams
When two vowels walk together, the first one says its name. The second vowel is silent. This rule only applies to these vowel teams:
ai, ee, oa, oe, ue, ui, and sometimes ie and ea. Read this lesson with your student, and then enjoy the story, "JESUS Heals the Sick and Endures Pain on the Cross."

Lesson 18: Sight Words
Sight words are common words that don't follow the rules. Therefore, they must simply be practiced and memorized. Read this list out loud one word at a time so that your student can hear how it is supposed to sound. Then, have your student repeat the word. Practice this list every day. Soon, your student will be reading these words fluently.

"Up to now,
you have been learning how to read.
Now, you are reading to LEARN." -Unknown
The statement "Up to now, you have been learning how to read. Now, you are reading to learn" signifies a shift from focusing on the mechanics of decoding words to actively engaging with text to acquire knowledge and understanding. It marks the transition from learning to read to using reading as a tool for learning.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
-
This phase focuses on developing foundational skills like phonics, recognizing letters and sounds, and building vocabulary. The goal is to be able to decipher written words and sentences.
-
Once the basic reading skills are established, the focus shifts to using reading as a means to acquire new information, explore ideas, and deepen understanding of various subjects. This involves active engagement with the text, critical thinking, and making connections to prior knowledge.
Essentially, it's the difference between learning how to use a tool (reading) and using that tool to build or create something (learning).
